A new spring concert series kicks off Sat, Feb 16 on a very high note with two fantastic artists, Mary Flower & Anne Weiss. Doors open at 7 p.m. for a 7:30 show. Refreshments available. Guitarist & lap slide player Mary Flower is renowned for her uniquely personal vision of roots music that blends ragtime, acoustic blues & folk. She’s technically dazzling yet grounded in the down-to-earth simplicity of early 20th century American music. With 9 albums out, she’s earned rave reviews for her warm contralto & dazzling instrumental mastery of the Piedmont blues style that takes most players a lifetime to hone. Flower’s performances around the world include big music festivals & workshops.

Opening the same night, Anne Weiss performs music which combines contemporary folk, blues, funk, gospel with smatterings of classical phrasing & Latin rhythm. Weiss is known for her enormous bluesy voice, great guitar chops & striking stage presence. Her lyrics are poetic, political, humorous, sensual, & full of characters & stories. Besides having four albums out, Weiss is an award-winning poet. She received the Allen Ginsberg Award for poems in her book called “Making Paper from Leaves.” More info at AnneWeiss.com
